Replace Chrome trim with Shadowline trim
I am trying to replace my exterior chrome trim around the four doors with the shadowline black trim. I currently have all the parts, a few sites sell them for a good deal, but the DIY thread I was going to use was an outdated thread and not applicable to this car.
I called a BMW stealership and was quoted 6 hours at $145/hour, so almost a grand to replace. I know I can do the job, but the big issue is the two front doors lower trim pieces which go under the side view mirror, and I have no idea what to do there without guessing and risking breaking something.
Any ideas? Please nobody reply with vinyl or taping...those are for my hockey stick.
Thx!

There are two places which had the trim for my 2010 535i. Tischer and Penske Parts.
Penske Parts is a more exensive but thats because it is BMW of Warwick. You can ask for 20% off and you should get it. All in about $450.
The second place is Tischer. Here are the link and blurb from their website:
Your Price: $286.95
Item Number: PKE60SHADOW*
OEM BMW E60/61 5 Series Matte Black Shadowline Exterior Trim Kit. Kit includes exterior matte black upper and lower window trims - giving your vehicle the shadowline trim option! Wagon version includes rear qtr glass windows and moldings. *Must include vin when ordering.

Problem solved. Find a local body/paint shop and they can do it. My install is two weeks out, and a quarter of the price the BMW stealership wanted.
These are the part numbers if anyone needs to order them:
Front Right Door: 51337072884 and 51217207258
Front Left Door: 51337072883 and 51217207257
Rear Right Door: 51227135164 and 51357072888
Rear Left Door: 51227135163 and 51357072887
Being charged 3 hours of labor/time.

I am going to get mine wrapped in a couple of weeks. Did plastidip first. Looked fine but it never looked perfect. It did look great when i did the wheels.
I went to my paint shop and he just said he doesn't want to paint chrome. He said it always cracks no matter the prep or primer they use. He suggested vinyl or plastidip.
