Default Question about fitment of wheels.

Hey guys, first time posting on the forums. Just had a couple questions. I am thinking of getting some Avant Garde M310 wheels for my e60. The thing is, I will be upgrading in a year or two to a F30. Since the offsets on both these are different (20mm for the e60 and 35mm for the F30 i think), I want to be able buy wheels that I will be able to fit to both cars.

Would I be able to fit wheels with a 20mm offset onto the F30 with 35mm offset? Or would it be better to buy wheels with a 35mm offset and just use spacers to correct for the e60 (and I am guessing they would be direct bolt on for the F30)?

Sorry if it is confusing. I have been trying to research this problem, but I haven't been able to find any thread that discusses how to go from wheels with a 20mm offset to 35mm offset and have been going insane.

I believe 20mm offsets on an F30 are very aggressive. I ran 18X8.5 ET20 and 18X9.5 ET20 on my Pre-LCI E90 and it worked fine, although it certainly was more aggressive than the stock fitment that came on the car. I know the E90 LCI cars had a wider rear track and an ET20 wouldn't work without some major work to the fenders and the look ended up being the stance/poke and stretch 80's mini truck look. I would spend some time on the F-series boards and find out what a moderately aggressive fitment is - look around to see what you like and go with that. Ask people their wheel specs if necessary. Whatever the particular F30 offset you decide on is, you can push that out to get to a 20mm offset (or lower for a more aggressive look) with wheel spacers to fit your current car.

I didn't realize how much actually goes into when getting wheels, this is ridiculous haha

But yeah I am definitely gonna get on those forums and check it out, thanks man. I appreciate it. Another quick question, from what you've seen, is it gonna look awkward if there is some wheel gap?

The only way to make it work for both is to go with the higher offsets and use spacers for the E60. 1010Tires some good offset and tire size calculators btw.

AG M310 are not that expensive, so just get what suits you currently. You might even get bored of them in a year or two and would want to change to a different set up once you get the new car. Just my thought.

Do you have the sport package on your current car? If no, then yes it will IMO look a bit silly.

The other thing you need to keep in mind is tire sizing. I know that E60 tire sizes would have been quite big (specifically speaking of sidewall height, not width) to fit on my E90. Not sure if the F30 cars would be in the same boat or not. Again, you need to check and see what the F30 guys are running that you like the look of and compare that to appropriate E60 sizes.

I decided to hold off on wheels for now. $1000 for the wheels. Then gonna have to buy spacers, and then coils and tires is just gonna add up like crazy. Thanks for the help though!

I think you are making a wise choice, put the funds towards the F30 purchase.

Good luck.
