Liqui Moly Oil search
Liqui Moly oil search
Hi all, I was in a debate with my mechanic regarding the oil to use for my next oil change. He likes another brand and I like Liqui Moly. I just feel like my car runs better on it. Anyway I decided to go to the Liqui Moly site to do some research and used their oil selector. The oil selector came up with the following options;
Top Tec 4200 5W-30
Top Tec 4600 5W-30
Longtime High Tech 5W-30 ( this is the one used by most shops)
I decided to email Liqui Moly and see which one of the above they suggest and why. The answer I got surprised me. They selected SPECIAL TEC LL 5W-30 instead of any of the above for the following reason.
"I recommended you to use an engine oil with BMW Longlife -01 approval because this approval means no low ash oil.
Oils with approval Longlife -04 are low ash oils ( all LIQUI MOLY TOP TEC oils are low ash ).
In central europe BMW Longlife -04 is suitable for all BMW engines, diuesel and petrol. Outside europe Longlife -04 is only suitable for BMW diesel engines wit a dpf system ( diesel particulate filter ) but not for petrol engines. This is because of the higher sulfur contend in the fuel outside central europe.
Because you have a BMW with petrol engine and you live in the USA I recommended you to use the Special Tec LL 5W-30 (1192) which has the suitable for use BMW Longlife -01 approval. It´s better for your car than a low ash oil."
The only problem with the above info is finding the Special Tec LL 5W-30 online. I'm still working on that part.
Hope this was helpful.
