My Ride: 535d
Model Year: E61 2006
I'm planning to install the quaife LSD in my 535d. It has traction issues in the first gears and i think that the LSD will fix it. Besides it, what makes the M's models so fun to drive is the LSD. Who owned one know pretty well what i'm talking about. Back to the topic, quaife gives the option to change the final drive ratio and i found a very interesting info when comparing the different models with the 35d engine:
535d ..... - 272hp - 2.56 ratio - 6th gear (0.69) - 4500rpm - 314kph
535d LCI - 286hp - 2.65 ratio - 6th gear (0.69) - 4500rpm - 303kph
335d LCI - 286hp - 2.81 ratio - 6th gear (0.69) - 4500rpm - 285kph
635d LCI - 286hp - 3.15 ratio - 6th gear (0.69) - 4500rpm - 264kph
The 535d is capable of 300kph. I have seen it in my car (~4350rpm) and there are also vids in youtube to prove it. The LCI version is a bit quicker mainly by the shorter gears. The 3 series is even shorter, but IMO, too much for the potencial of a well tuned 35d engine. About the 635d i think that bmw installed such a shorter gears to don't outperform the 650i or the M6 in the P400. Taller gears in the 635d is the best mod FTW. What would you choose?

My Ride: (USA) 645Ci, Silver Gray, Chateau, Cold Weather PKG, Premium Sound PKG, Sport PKG, Step, NAV [Std Equip in 645], HUD, Satellite (SIRIUS) Radio, Aux Input, Bluetooth enabled using iPhone 3GS w/ adapter cradle - Build date - 01/05, Baby delivered 2/24/05
Of those choices the 2.81 still gives excellent top end and I assume very good MPG, while being the best of the three for acceleration from stop or low speed.

I'd probably go with the 2:81, give you more punch off the line without giving up too much MPG.
The Quaife LSD is great, just like you said makes it feel like an M car.

635D final gear ratio
Hey Tiago,
Can you explain why do you think the final gear ratio on the 635D is not adequate? I also plan to fit a Quaife LSD. What gear ratio would you recommend, considering the car is remapped to 352 hp and 730 nm. I am interested in having the best acceleration, not top speed or mpg.
