Default LUX v4s will fit in e60 550i

Hi There,

I have an '08 550i and Im running the LUX AE v4s and the ballast does fit. Its super tight and may be a real pain in the ass to remove, but they do fit in there.

Default Royal Pain to Install

hey guys - i ordered my Lux v4 from bimmian.com because my original H8 bulb on the driver side blew out. $283 inc shipping 2 day from bimmian.com.

white e60 2008 M5
carbon air filters deleted
AFE dry filters
front bumper reflectors deleted
everything else pretty much stock

i gotta say, the removal of the old bulb is pretty easy, but the ballast on the new H8 is definitely much bigger in the rear. couple that with the fact that the rubber washer is a tad too thick, it makes it much more difficult to twist the new ballast in place/locked.

the passenger side was much easier to access and complete.

the driver side however is a royal pain because access to the dust cover is already compromised by the hood release and all kinds of other wires behind the headlight assembly. removal of the old H8 light was simple, but getting the new Lux bulb, ballast, and control dip switch box in is nearly impossible.

for the driver side, i wound up removing the mounting screws and pulling the headlight assembly forward about 3-4 inches (without completely removing), and this was the ticket. in addition, i had to pull the ballast seal washer back so that the new Lux v4 would twist into place locked. once i jumped through all of these hoops with scraped up knuckles and fingers i had to make sure the light assemble was fastened back aligned with the body, bumper, and hood assemblies.

once done however, i left the setting at default at 12,000k which is towards the most 'BLUE' vs white glow.

now that they're installed however, they look great! at night with just the daytime running lights on (headlights off) it is VERY VERY BRIGHT. interesting to note is that the inner rings seem to be just a tad bit brighter than the outer rings. my guess is because of simple proximity to the fiber optics - the light does sit closer to the inner ring.

i will also note that i typically do a TON of research on every mod, and the Lux H8 v4 are the best reviewed. i typically review cost, quality, longevity of product, other bimmaniacs opinion, and most importantly ease of installation (because although i CAN do my own mods, i really dont like to). on a scale from 1-10 on this mod for my model car, i'd say it was about a 5 or 6 simply because of the complexity of the driver's side and space to work with (at least on my M5). i compare this to a front bumper reflector delete which is about a 1-2 in difficulty, or even a side blinker replacement at 1-2 difficulty.

all that being said, i'm very satisfied with the purchase and install - scraped knuckles will heal.

will post daytime and night time pictures soon. also on order are 20" Avant Garde M359s w/ Mich Pilot AS3s - should be in this week.

I found LED AE's look even better on our E60's than on the 3 series (I have both and have done the upgrade to them). For some reason, the light distribution between both rings is much better on the 5 series, AND it's way easier to install it than in a 3 series.

They typically recommend taking photos from like 20 feet back, as the light shows better, than when up close. I set my Lux's at one or two settings higher than the lowest / warmest colour, so they just have a hint of blue, as the brightness falls off as you keep going up the Kevlin scale.
