Default CCC screen and Apple TV

I have seen that some people managed to attach Apple TV to CCC and CIC units to use AirPlay option to see iPhone or iPad's screen on the CCC or CIC screen.

I think this is possible only with Combox? Am I right?

My car equipt with CCC unit. I think CCC screen resolution is 640 x 240 only and CIC and NBT are 1280 x 480 as they are using same screen (P/N numbers are same). iPhone 6 Plus screen resolution is 1920 x 1080. So I guess CCC screen won't be able to handle iPhone's screen resolution.

If I get a CIC screen would it work with CCC unit?

If this is real, please someone let us know!

Would the resolution really matter?

I am no expert, but from my experience I believe that, if the input (iPhone) is so much that it requires a screen with such high resolution at that small size, wouldn't the output (CCC) still replicate it but in a distorted fashion (blow it up).

Which, if it was the case, the image might not fit on the screen.
Unless, maybe it has a way of scrollable through the image with the iDrive controller?

But, the screen itself on the CCC is much larger than my iPhone 5 (sorry, haven't made the jump yet).

Doesn't the size of the screen effect how much video it can display. Which, if it did, is the bigger CCC screen enough to mitigate the fact that at the size of an iPhone 6 plus requires a 1920x1080.

Also, I remember issues with the ouput on certain application's back when they switched from the 4 to the 5. Many needed to be re-designed to stretch to the new screen dimensions of the iPhone 5. Some just added colored banners, or ads (not a good move in my book).

What if once you transmit it, it show up sideways or even cut off on the top or bottom (or both)?

I have seen iPhone screen mirroring on CCC screens. (on youtube). however the phone was iPhone 3G.

As far as I know that everything comes down to resolution of screen, not the size of the screen. (I might be wrong).

My view is that having smartphone (doesn't matter which brand) screen mirrored on the car's screen is many times better than NBT retrofit. Apart from car related settings you can do much more with an smartphone than what NBT can do.

That's why I will aim to implement AirPlay if I can. Also this is much cheaper than CIC and NBT retrofits. I think all we need is a combox type device which supports AirPlay (or other smartphone acreen mirroring technology).

www.bmwtuning.hu has got some devices related to this matter. (I couldn't find their email address yet )
