Annoying phone cradle

My Ride: 2008 535xi

I took it apart.. and ripped out the last part with the gear. I saw that you have to take the whole console apart to actually get that hinge out nicely.. since I never wanted to see it again, I took some pliers and just snapped it off, then the actual gear part comes out after the fact... done in 15 minutes..

My Ride: 2006 530d Pre LCI
that's correct. you have to remove the entire center console and then disassemble the underside of the console to take out that box. for me, the hardest part was getting the console up and over the e-brake handle. the rest was pretty straight forward. however, i like the little box for coins, etc.
unclip sliding arm cushion (gently), raise the center console and use the vent horizontally to prop it up, Under the console unscrew 3 torx screws below phone cradle, lift it all out and put it all back together.
