Questions - New, high mileage E60 M5 questions
Hello All -
New to the boards here but I've received a nice welcome, thank you!
I finally got the car I've always wanted, 2008 M5 (SMG), love the thing. Long story but almost 10 years ago a friend of my dad's bought the car and I fell in love with it. Knowing I could never afford one I told him to let me know when he wore it out. Well he bought a new F10 and called me. It's high mileage (129,500) and I've heard the horror stories... but I figured at 10K it was too good a deal to pass up. I think BB was around 17.5K and the previous owner had everything regularly done by the dealer. I don't plan to use as a daily driver, but a fun family weekend car, trips etc. A couple of questions I'm hoping you can help with:
- Any idea if something major goes on the car, what it might be worth? I'm thinking even for parts it may be worth close to 10k which is why I pulled the trigger. Did I get hosed?
- Around town driving, do you guys put it in neutral at lights, manual shift? I've read a lot of conflicting opinions on how best manage the tranny.
- As its not a daily driver, whats the minimum would drive one? Should I try and take it out at least once a week?
- Really I want to try and make the car last as long as possible. I'll probably drive it aggressively on rare occasion. Any tips on the best way to baby this car and get the most mileage out of it?
