Had to leave the car at driveway after some near miss monent. I drove like a granny (well even worst than granny) at less than 10mph on that monday, cars with fwd/4wd were queuing behind me. Decided to use my company car (madza 6) on the next day, it handled so well. If it snows again which the weather broadcast says, I know which one I'll choose.

Had the same problem in a carpark, with plenty of people watching! Lots of usefull comments like, "second gear mate" then blank looks when explaining yes I hadn't thought of that, now how do I get my SMG into 2nd?!
You could start from 2nd but you must be under S4.

I have a 545 as my snow car - add the blizzaks on it is next to unstoppable!!!
I have owned audi's and other 4 wheel drive cars but I just can't get over how great the 545 is in the snow. You don't use first gear ever but there is nothing I haven't been able to get thru. I have been in snow 8" deep that we have had and it has just been a blast with the front acting as a bit of a plow but have yet to get stuck.

What I have been enjoying is the balance the car has and how great the brakes are. You don't have the appreciation of how good they are till it is snowing.

As a side note - take the traction control off and go play - the car is just so precise with a little Scandinavian flick to go sliding around the corners.

With superb rear traction and plenty of HP/TQ you can throttle steer the car all over the place.

She hasn't been out in the snow .. I learned my lesson from my previous E60 (545i) in the snow. Very embarrassing. Snow tyres for sure, but this country (down south at least) doesn't really require the necessity to own such things.. we may get 1 day a year (though 2009 shpaing up to be considerably more).
I have a new Mini Cooper that I use for the station runs .. Behaves like a 4x4 I tell you. Nothing seems to stop it
Snow tires and a few manhole covers in trunk.

Works every time.
