I want to do the cluster light mod and disconnect the battery. However, I don't want to leave the trunk open while I'm inside working (carport only, no garage ) I tried the metal key in the FOB, but that doesn't seem to do anything. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks!

Hmmm... you metal key in the fob is your backup to open the driver door and trunk in case of power failure on either part. It's strange that your trunk lock doesn't work with the key. May be you should have the trunk lock checked before anything else.

the metal key should work, check the manual for correct operation (I have an 05 so no comfort access, and I haven't seen my trunk lock since May '08 thanks to the trunk finisher) but if it doesn't, you can hook up a battery charger or one of those jump start batteries to the terminal post up front and push the release button inside the car. Figured that one out when I shut the trunk while I was changing my battery.

I believe that the trunk lock requires more torque to open with the key.

Try turning it harder.

The key word is it should work. But it doesn't! When I bought my car last year, I noticed that the metal piece doesn't actually unlock my car, it was totally a WTF to me. As I did mods for some members, I've asked them if their metal key works for their lock, and surprisingly, I had a few that theirs didn't work either. At least one person I know is the first owner, so that was strange.

When I ordered my replacement key from the dealership 2 weeks ago, this new one's metal part works. So I don't know wtf, I guess they get mixed up sometimes? Sucks that just replacing that part is at least $60.

Anyway, you can open the trunk if you can hook up a battery charger under the hood or another car to jump start your car. I actually mistakenly closed my trunk without thinking the first time I did this mod, lol.

+1, it's takes surprisingly good amount of force to turn the key and open the trunk...

You're right! It works with both my keys. Unfortunately, it seems tempermental though. I had to jiggle it a bit and the last time I tried it didn't work. Oh well. I guess I have to try the suggested jump start trick to get it going or else leave the trunk open. Thanks guys!
