Hello again. 2 questions: The water pump died on our 2006 BMW 525i at 74,200 miles!! Is this typical? The BMW says that this is common problem on this car. Pumps cost $80 to $500 on the web. If the original OEM is so crappy should I just get a cheap after market pump? Might be better than OEM

Mine went at about 46k. It is an electric-driven pump and I think that there's only one manufacturer so you should probably buy from a low price seller. I think that I remember someone bought a pump recently on eBay.

Thanks for all your responses....I was out going fast in my 17ft sun bird boat to cheer myself up....just got back and read your responses. Am surprised some of these electric pumps went so long!!

69K-when I towed it to my dealer, I found out that I had purchased an "extended service agreement" not an extended warranty. It ran about $900, but they did flush my brakes a bit early since I was there and about to lose the service agreement

155k still original, 2004 530d if that makes any difference, should i get it changed?

if it does fail, how do you know if the engine is over heating since there is no water temp gauge in e60's?
