Default Transmission fault / stuck in park

Hi all...long time lurker, first time poster...need some input if you don't mind.

I have a 2006 e60 550i with about 111K on it.

Driving home this afternoon, I felt what seemed to be a mis-shift when getting on to the freeway and the car immediately gave me an iDrive message of transmission fault (red gear) / drive moderately along with gear can be changed without depressing brake or something similar.

I made it home, put the car in park and shut it off....then waited awhile and restarted to see if it had cleared (this is not my first BMW....LOL)...the error was still there and now I can't move the shift lever from park.

From what I've read, it could be anything from low batt voltage to mechtronix to TCM.

Any thoughts or similar experiences with similar that you've gotten resolved?

TIA

Its very hard to say unless you provide the code.

BMW gearbox will not let you change gear if the fault is serious i.e. fatal to the drive so I'd urge you read the error. As a check, any serious oil leak ? One of my friend recently changed the transmission oil cooler but failed to secure the pipe correctly. After only a few hundreds feet, the pipe fell off and transmission oil flushed out which makes the TCM show up the idrive error message and gearbox locked until car fully stops.

P170A comes up active and, when cleared, P0962 comes up as pending

It was a solenoid. Found a new set on eBay for 300 bucks. Replaced the filter / pan, the sleeve and the valve body gasket while I had it apart. About 7 hours on jack stands taking my time and shooting the sh!t with my buddy who was helping me. Hardest part was getting at the sleeve...not much room up there.
