Transmission driving me nuts! $5,000 is no good!
Going to try and keep this short.
2006 530i, seem to be a lot of transmission issues at about 120,000 miles. Long story short, original transmission completely shat out it wouldn't shift and had lots of codes with it, I sourced down a used transmission, new pan and new fluid and had it all done by a mechanic. I have not done any coding, programming, registration aside from resetting adaptation values (problem possibly?). The car shifts absolutely beautifully after a software update and new transmission. There is no thump, hard stops, anything while casual driving and if I rip down 100% throttle it shifts very quickly and accordingly with absolutely no issues. It however refuses to pass emissions! It's throwing code P0979 and P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction).
Driving me nuts! Dealer wants $5,000 for a brand new transmission, local indy shops say put in a different transmission. Not many transmission specialists in my area.

You transmission guys should jump in. I thought I saw somewhere that the tranny has some vehicle specific information and has to be programmed. I'm sure someone here has been in your spot before and can comment.
