Default Should I go to the dealer for this or an indy

I'm going to get my valve cover gasket replaced. I know I can do this myself but I don't have time and tools. Should I just bring it in to the dealer and let them do it? Or go to the euro mechanic down from the dealer to get it done? The dealership is charging me 500$ for everything. Maybe I can at least price match the gaskets to get it lower. I'm pretty sure the shop down the street would charge less for labor.

The STEALERship is almost always a ripoff. Its because they can.

This job should be pretty easy for a mechanic that has experience with BMW's There are a lot of them out there.

The only reason why I might consider the dealer is because they're probably going to replace all the bolts and maybe give me new oil, clean up the engine bay, top off all my fluids and air, and wash n wax my car. Plus if I go on friday night they'll keep it overnight and let me borrow a new bimmer for free for the weekend. HAHAHA I'm not sure if regular shops would do all this. Every time I bring it in they always do all that extra jazz. Do other dealerships do this?

As everyone says the dealers do charge an arm and a few internal organs for a service but if you are not desperate for the cash I would take it to the dealer, as you said they wash the car and top off fluids and you get the bonus of a loaner. I personally always take my car to the dealer simply because I know that they will always do the job right, even if I have to exchange my soul for a service haha

Man that's some dealer if they offer that level of service. Dealerships have a 'get it in, bang it out' mentality for the most part. I wouldn't expect anything you have mentioned from a dealer other than the $500 invoice at the end. That's the only thing I would count on happening.

Here in Australia when I take my car in they always thoroughly wash it / top up the fluids if need be(so they say but I can't actually confirm this) but I completely understand the stealer ship mentality I'm sure most of them couldn't care less about how well the job is done

I have never heard of any dealership doing all that. Yes, they do wash your car with recycled water but that is it. I need to go to your DS maybe I will actually get something done right the first time other than an oil change. If it makes you feel better take it to the dealership but if you want to get it done the same way cheaper take it to an indy or find someone with tools and get it done. Make sure you buy your own parts before you go to an indy so you know exactly what is going on your car.

Yea I wasn't expecting so much from a dealership. They didn't wash my car with recycled water they even waxed it a little with that ultra expensive wax they sell. They also used that interior freshener so it smells like a bmw again ahahaha. Plus they let me PRICE MATCH! It does cost an arm and a leg though but with the PRICE MATCHING it'll only cost an arm ahahahhaha Plus I know it'll be done right. http://www.newcenturybmw.com/ That's my DS. Best one I've been to.

JB4 PNP N54 BMW Performance Tuner - BurgerTuning.com
Has anyone done it? Are you happy with the results. Does the gas mileage change?

My car 72k now, water pump and thermostat at 69k. Usual with this model.
Other then that the car is awesome. I change the oil every 6k with full synthetic and now send oil to Blackstone labs for analysis, awesome results. Cars runs perfect.

please let me know on the Burger upgrade 100hp would be cool!
