Noisy N52
Hey guys, I'm back here with another question that I haven't found the answer to anywhere else but I'm experiencing this ticking/knocking noise coming from my 2006 525i equipped with the N52 engine. It's got about 140000 kilometes (86000 miles) and it's really bothering me because I recently bought this car used about a month ago and these noises coming from the engine don't seem promising. Hopefully you guys could hear it coming from the video that I recorded via my iPhone so beware that the quality might be lacking.
A little edit: The car was just started when this video was recorded, no A/C on. Just idling on a hot summer day. The noise continues when I rev the engine, as it turns faster the noise gets faster.

Thank you guys for the replies, I'm pretty sad to hear this but thank you for the clean engine bay compliment! Back on topic, it seems to go away as the car warms up I noticed it today, it does initially for the first ten minutes and it quiets down. Can I still drive the car regularly? What's gonna happen, will it completely fail at some point?

mine recently sounded like that it was random. I recorded it and let my service advisor hear it and they changed my HVA's under the cpo. about a year ago a sound I had that was similar was the belt tensioner pulley going out. but that sounds like HVA's

Thank you for attaching the SIB, much appreciated. Unfortunately I didn't buy my used BMW at their dealers but from a third party dealership around my neighborhood. Do you think if I visit the dealer and explain them the situation will they fix the HVA for free or like 50% off or something? Or it could just be like you said the belt tensioner but I've youtube'd it seems more likely to be the HVA.

I doubt they would give you a real. BMW aims there is no harm.... If you buy that logic. I think the dealer price to fix it is around $1600-2000 I'd find a good indy shop and ask them for a quote, it should be less
