My Ride: 2007 BMW 550i
Default New Member (switched from a mercedes)

Thought id introduce myself to the forum, im been ghost for some time here reading up on the e60 as i was searching for a 2007 550i. Well finally found one! They are pretty rare in lebanon because people here think v8s are way more upkeep then a 6 or 4 and selling a 550i later on is going to be a pain but i dont care i have 360hp

Anyway ive always owned mercedes and i know them inside out and do all my work on the car, even got a STAR diagnostic laptop and started playing around in developer mode (alot like coding in BMWs).

Well i had an accident in my last car which was a 2004 CLK320 and in never came out the way i wanted, i tried improving it as much as i could but it was never the same, i bought so much parts for that car the dealership here gives me a 10% discount on parts and 30% on oils and 30% discount on all exterior parts.

I decided to look for a v8, i was looking for a E550 or a CLS550 then it hit me hard that i wanted a 550i, finally found bought one thats silver grey with black dakota leather. Premium, sport, cold weather, sound packages with one owner. Its got a few miles 120,000 but that doesnt scare me.

Looking forward to being a part of this forum as i was pretty active on the mercedes forum.

Welcome, Daniel! We look forward to your participation. Yeah, at 120,000 miles, the E60 is barely broken in, lol! We'll be interested in hearing comparisons between your new ride and your former Benz.

Thank you for the warm welcome guys! Played around with ARS today, damn didnt expect initialization to twitch the car that way! These cars are amazing! Mercedes was all about comfort and that kick in the butt when you felt like you were in the mood, but they are noway near comfortable at speed as BMWs. Also love the fact the way the interior is focused around the driver. Tight seating but still big where it matters! i think im bought on BMWs, i dought ill go back even if i just drove this beast for 2 days! Engine wise i loved the torque in the M112 engine in my CLK, really reliable and with more then usual torque to horspower ratio made the car feel it was faster then it is. But the N62 is in another leaque! Other then being in a V8 the responsiveness and that sound is just to die for, and now i am actully going fast not just feeling it! I have yet to take apart the engine compartment to figure out how BMW does things but im looking forward to it. Also ill post pics when i figure out how to upload pics on this forum, everytime i press the insert picture button it opens a dialog asking for an internet link to the picture! Any help will be much appreciated. Also my MB friends dont get me right now, but i think im going to change their minds when i get them in my car

You cannot host the pictures. Need to upload to Photobucket or similar site and then link to that location/url.

I have a 545i so basically, the same engine. you may already know this, but you should get ready for the notorious BMW V8 weaknesses: valve stem seals, coolant transfer tube, coolant crossover cover, oil cooler/alternator bracket seal, valve cover seals (all BMW engines). Then, you get to worry about the transmission valve body issues. And, as on all BMW's keep a close eye on the engine cooling system (cooling system performs well as designed, just have to worry about all the plastic cracking/failing).

Have fun, and congratulations.

A couple of pictures shot by the dealer, its an american import. The previous owner installed "purple/violet" angel eyes and i think they are pretty ugly but on camera they look blue so took some night shots and this is one of them! I'll probably go buy the OEM yellow bulbs from the stealership as i'm a bit OCD on original parts.

Also thanks for the heads up, i already read about all the issues i might have, didn't find them too scary as i do my own work at a friend's garage. so worst case he helps me out and we solve any issues i might have. right now the only problem i'm having is TPM. it seems one of the sensors is missing as all of the tires have nuts on the valves except one of them, i've got to do more testing on a diagnostic laptop to figure out exactly what the issue is.
