Long time since I have posted on this great forum.
Has anyone experienced their navigation DVD disc being ejected out of the blue for no apparent reason. I could not get it back in the dash after several attempts. It appeared that it was sealed and I could not even push the disc in.When it finally accepted the disc and I tried to use the navigation features, it prompted me to "insert navigation DVD" even though it was already inserted.I tried to eject the disc but it would not eject no matter how I tried and continued to prompt me to insert disc. I finally gave up, but 5 or 6 days later it again mysteriously ejected the disc overnight.
I cleaned the disc well and tried to insert it but it will not open up to accept the disc.
Is there a feature that ejects the disc automatically if the Nav system malfunctions?
My 2005 5451 now has 103,000 miles on it, so it is long out of warranty. I called BMW and they advised if it is the nav. computer and it needs replacing it could cost between $2,000/3,000 (more than the original system cost itself.) This is the first problem I have had with this car, it has been terrific.
ANY IDEAS?????

How old is your battery in your car? I've had strange little problems with my car....I think its because the battery is getting low...I never had the dvd nav problem though...But I have had it pop up active steering, passenger restraint, and stuff like that...I was told its probably the battery throwing codes...The battery's are only good for around 4 years...Just a thought...

You're a brave man coming on here admitting that you're suffering from premature ejection!

One idea, maybe a friend, a local E60 member with Nav or of course your dealer could lend you a different disc to see if that's the issue? If it turns out that it's the unit and not the disc, the other idea (assuming your iDrive is otherwise working fine except for the navigation) is that I'd just suggest going for a portable unit. Much cheaper than the replacement the dealer is suggesting and probably better functionality.

Good luck!
