Just an update.

The dealer upgraded my software (?282) and the CCC failed to take the update, they've now told me that the car will not start/drive until the CCC is replaced (?692) and the update is re-run/complete (Another ?191).

They are not sure that this will fix the problem, but from reading this forum it looks like it should work.

Total Cost todate = ?1165 and I should know tomorrow if this has worked.

Regards

Update,

Picked the car up today and paid the bill. After conversations with BMW UK and the dealer I managed to get the bill down from ?1200 to ?480 (BMW UK paid for the new CCC and dealer took off ?100 labour).

All in all I'm a happy chap.

Side note, when picking up the car from the dealer (I was getting a lift in) I noticed a 530d almost skid to a stop at a red light, only to drive pass and see that it was the BMW guy test driving my car!!!!!

The dealer can put a 'goodwill' case forward to BMW, this takes into account the problem, your car age, mileage and also how good/long a customer you have been to BMW.

I would talk to customer services at BMW and say that it's clearly a common problem etc.

Here you go
Attachment 42759

Quite a few of us here believe the IDrive is not covered under CPO. Software issues look like they might be a different story.

Good luck. Ask service writer if he can help you.

Hello I have a few questions & I'm hoping someone can help out with some input .
I'm trying to help a friend with his car , It's a 2007 525i .
THE PROBLEM
the radio does not produce any sound & the Screen on the dash flickers
on all white once in awhile . Also the I-drive knob spins freely .

Do you think his problem is related to what you guy's are discussing in this topic
or could it be the MPM module ???

we did look in his trunk but there is no MPM , only an RDC module .
I read on this site that the MPM was integrated into another module
behind the glove box after 2005 . this might explain why it was not in the trunk .

So I was hoping someone would have a suggestion on what I should look for next
to try & fix his problem .

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANY INPUT .

Given this is an old thread with no answer, I can add this for new people searching for answers. If your iDrive knob spins freely, it is usually the switch itself, and since this is the least costly item to replace when problems arise with iDrive, start their, is solved my problem a while back, but sadly, now my screen is blanking out, so was looking for answers myself.

I haven't read all 5 pages of this post, but this recently happened to me, it was a bad CCC, I bought a new one somewhere online, for like $700 (return the old one for $500 core credit), installed it myself, everything back to normal now. 99% of the time it's the CCC.

Thanks, I suspected it was CCC from all the research I have done to date, but if so, I was curous if anyone knew which component breaks down most under extreme heat given CCC has heat fan mounted to it. For the exchange you did, this is the best deal yet I have heard about, thanks, will scan ebay to see if service still is available. If you happen to remember who offered this deal.

Thanks,
