My Ride: salloon 520d manual 2008
dpf trouble
Hi Guys
not sure if ime doing this right, first time here.
got a 520d 2008. 197000 kilometers. had the warning particle filter, took to a local garage
had the cleaning pocess this lasted for a couple of weeks,
so then had the particle filter changed, told this will fix it.paid out another 1200 euros
2 weeks later same warning, particle filter.
so back to the garage he's now saying its the collector and will cost another 1000euros.
well ive searched to try and find out what this PART IS. and cant find it anywhere.
can anyone please enlighten me. hes done another clean 300 euros. dosn't think it will last long.e
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THIS PART IS AS I I KNOW IT WILL BE CHEAPER TO BUY IN ENGLAND,IF I KNOW WHAT IT IS.
its given massive power loss.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE

It may not be your DPF thats broken - it might be your mechanic.
Whenever there is DPF trouble you must verify that the thermostats are working and the car is getting up to temperature (approx 90 Celsius for my 530d ).
Also make sure you have good glow plugs. Not sure on a 520d but you may need 3 working ones for regeneration to happen.
If possible get a code reader to check the glow plugs and the coolant temperature while driving.

hi , I know it’s an old thread but I’ve a blocked dpf , soot is clear but ash is @66g shown on carley App , my three temps rise to 88/90oc when driving and no fault showing for glow plugs after a few regens. Think I’ll need to replace it so has anyone used the new or Re manufactured units.
