Hi, I need to identify the sensors on my 2008 530d DPF unit, can anybody help. It drives about 4/5 miles and then the DPF warning comes on, it does not go into limp mode but when I had a friend put his machine on it, it says the fault is a back pressure sensor.but I am unable to identify it. thanks paneuro.

Look at part number 5.

Before swapping parts out I strongly recommend you check the number of working glow plugs (at least 4 needed on your car) and that the water temperature is around 90 degrees Celsius.

Can you say how I would check these items? there is no temperature guage in the car and the only way I could check gloww plugs is to replace them. thanks paneuro.

The diagnostics will detect bad glow plugs - I used Carly for a while but now I just use ISTA/D.

You can check the glow plugs manually by testing the resistance (approx 5 ohm I think). When they break its usually mega-ohms.

Hi, I have replaced the exhaust backpressure sensor, do I need to get the codes cleared after replacing?
The dpf light is still coming on after about 5 miles. thanks paneuro.

My guess is that the light comes on because the DPF is blocked.

Did you check the coolant temperature? Did you check the glow plugs?

Is there so much soot in the DPF that the car will not regenerate?

These are crucial things to be aware of.

I note you say you have been using carly but have stopped and now use something else, I was looking at purchasing this bit of equipment, are they not as good as their video demo say they are? Paneuro

Hi, I managed to check engine temperature and best I could get was 77 degrees so looks like I need to invest in a thermostat or maybe two.

I kept getting bluetooth dropouts with Carly and found it a bit slow.

If you use BMW software with a cable you get a more complete set of functions and for less money (once you buy the extras like battery registration and DPF regen request for Carly).

I had to change both thermostats and 4 glow plugs (actually changed all plugs even though two were OK).

If you have too much soot in the DPF you may need to get it cleaned professionally. BMW may tell you to buy a new one but that is the absolute last resort. I cleaned mine with Liquimoly cleaner but I had to fabricate some equipment to do this. Some garage in Scotland should be able to do it.

Hi, I think if I can't get it to regenerate I would look at complete removal and a remap,
with regards the code reading, I assume I need a laptop or Ipad and where do I get the BMW software? thanks Paneuro.
