My 2005/6 E60 has an intermittent cracking sound from the dashboard area even when travelling on a highway and over small bumps. The sound is like pebbles hitting the windscreen and seems to come from both the left and right side of the dashboard. Has anyone experienced this?

I have a slight rattle and slight vibration sound that comes from the buttons on the turn sign stalk, will mention to the dealer on the first oil change. Try holding the two buttons on the turn signal stalk when you hear the noise and see if that stops it. Hope that helps.

When I have my leather seat in its highest position there's a creaking sound, even when driving over the smallest of bumps. At first I thought this noise was coming from the dash!! Remember it's very difficult to pin point where sounds are coming from in a car. There are so many surfaces to reflect sound off in the most unexpected ways.

i have the same phantom crackling/rattle/buzz when going over speed bumps. I figured it out. It's the steering wheel. Try hitting the center of the steering wheel with a closed fist, but not hard enough to actually honk the horn.

anyone else experience this? if so, any remedies?

Yes, I have heard some of the sort of noise that you mentioned, not sure if it is just the parts rubbing against each other at the joints when going over uneven surfaces or some internal parts are making that noise. I also have sort of a "flap" sound coming from my seat back when I rest on it suddenly. Bear in mind that noises and sounds are extremely difficult to fix and very time consuming to locate in the first place. It is annoying at times but can live with it.

This is one cause that can be remedied.

Yeap same here. Your post is identical to how other have described the noise. I'm okay with it, as its faint and you can train yourself not to notice it. I think its plastics expanding and contracting.

Oops, the answer is above my post.

I may have the same issue in my 650i. I get a big creaking noise once or twice from the top center of the dash as the car cools down on a very hot day. It does happen when going over certain bumps as well.

Okay, I'm going to sound nuts here but I have to ask one question...
