Default Code reader for 2008 bmw 5 series

Hi I am looking to buy a code reader to extract code/ clear code for a 2008 BMW 5 series. This scanner should be able to extract code from the engine, transmission, abs and airbag. I was looking at LAUNCH CRP 123, but i read somewhere that said this scanner wont do all that for the BMW. Do anyone have or know of a scanner which will work for BMW, to recommend to me, that is less than US$500? thanks

Just bought BMWhat today and played around with it on the car. It's brilliant and the best for the price I believe. I also have INPA and DIS, I'd recommend INPA but it does get quite complicated. So if you want simple read, erase, code, etc. then BMWhat is perfect.

Hi KyleB is this the INPA software you mention in your KyleB's 6HP19 service thread. I found this on ebay but I am not sure if this is the software or if this is just the USB Cable interface. It said is come with a CD not sure if the CD contain the INPA program to monitor my transmission temperature. If this is not the INPA program, where can I buy the correct software. Please see link below..Thanks

That item you posted doesn't clarify if you get Inpa or not, in some places it says it's for INPA but then doesn't exactly state you get the program. If you're interested in that one you might have to contact the seller to clarify. Here's the one I bought in June 2014, the only thing that isn't %100 from here is NCS-Expert unless they fixed it since then. All the other programs work perfectly just need to know a little about computers for installation (you get all the instructions with the item) so it's not too difficult. Good Luck

Hi Pistratoaie
thanks for the infor you posted to me. I have the 2008 bmw 535i model but the ebay website where you bought your INPA package from stated that the interface is K-LIKE PORTOCOL.( what year and model is your bmw) but I am thinking do I need the K+D-CAN interface. this is what I found about D-CAN...
Models that require D-CAN:
- E60, E61 after 3/2007
- E83 after 9/2006
- E81, E87 after 3/2007
- E90, E91, E92, E93 after 3/2007
- E70 (New X5)
- R56 (New Mini)
- New F Series
- As well as all other new models...

If I do order the package which you already bought, will I be able to monitor my transmission temperature and reset my adaptation. Thanks very much for your help.

Hey guys! I'm actually trying to decide what to get as well. It be pretty cool if I can code some stuff (learn how to) into E60s and read codes etc. With the BMWhat app, is it phone only? or can you get that for your computer as well?

From what I know is that the app is around 59 bucks and in addition you need cables, and those cables are on ebay on about 30-40 dollars (OBD2 to US and a dongle that goes from USB to MicroUSB for about 10 dollars.

Hi Kasmo I am also interested in the BMWhat device, while looking on youtube it seem to be smartphone apps base nothing about a laptop installation. here is the link.

Have you used or know of anyone who have experience with INPA software to monitor BMW transmission temperature. If yes where is the best place to buy a package which is safe to use. thanks

Ah ok, And no I have not.

Might just end up picking up a cord, dongle and the app. Just because it would be super useful. And its not only for 1 BMW its for multiple. My family has a bunch of BMWs haha. Plus i got a new battery in January and didnt register it, might have to charge it up a little bit and register it.
