BMW lifetime transmission compatible castrol
#1
hello,
My first post here on this Board.
I have found that the new Castrol Import Multi-vehicle ATF is compatible with the Shell M1375.4 fluid currently used by BMW in their vehicles.
Here is a link to their compatability chart.

I checked at walmart here and its about $7/ltr. BMW is asking $80/ltr here in edmonton, Alberta.
The vehicle currently has 117K kms, or 70K miles.
I have ordered a filter/pan kit from pelican parts and would be doing an oil change soon, and document it in the DIY section.
I have a question though, i want to disconnect the transmission cooler return line and drain all of the fluid from the car by starting the car for a little while at a time, and pumping fluid back in through the fill hole. i also ordered a couple of cooler line O-rings that attach to the metallic connectors.
What do you guys think of that approach for a BMW?
I did that for a crown vic where we would keep filling in fluid from the dipstick and disconnected one of the cooler lines to get all the fluid out. flushed the steering fluid the same way.
i am fairly handy and have done quite a bit of maintenance work on a variety of vehicles.
Thanks,
Ali C.
