My Ride: 2007 550i. 80k miles
Default 550i 2007 shifting clunky

Slow start from automatic shift from first into second is hard and jerky. Same when coming to stop. Seems to lessen as engine heats up. Rpm low 1200 ish even driving at 45 mph. Definitely something wrong at start up. High speeds no issue and no computer warning errors. Suggestions on how to resolve please

Do a transmission pan and fluid service ... Then see how she does. How many miles on the last fluid service ?

Wow I have a 07 550i just went over 100k. Nothing wrong yet but now I'm getting worried... had a 04 530d and the tranny capped out on me.

My Ride: '06 550i Sport Package
Default Drive Sport

Sorry to read that, JB. I have an '06 550i with 160k miles. Love the car. Drives great. I have 3 points to consider on your post: First, driving in Drive Sport (DS) eliminates many of these issues and makes the car more fun to drive. Our cars are programmed to save fuel and thus cheat toward selecting higher gears at inappropriate times in my opinion, which makes the car feel like it is struggling/clunking, esp at low speeds. (15 mph in 3rd gear-- give me a brake. In fact, it feels like pumping the brakes!). DS avoids this. Second, have your service guys clear the tranny adaptions every time you can. It's easy and cheap or perhaps free at good places that have all the BMW software if done in connection with a paid service. The tranny adapts to your driving to save gas, dummying down the drive characteristics in my opinion over time. Drives so much better after the memory is professionally cleared, although the impact is short lived because it continues to learn and re-adapt. Third, at 70k miles, if you plan to keep the car for some time, you should change the ATF and a coupe related tranny seals. Costs a lot of $. But it's necessary maintenance in my opinion. Good luck. Psam550.
