All the pump
2E81 shows that the pump isn't completely failed, but that it is not working correctly. The measured pump RPMs are not what the car expects to measure. I'd replace the pump.

You do mean $1,300.00..right?My indy did mine for $950.00. Let's face the facts. If you have a N54
engine preventive maintenance is a MUST! At 50K and maybe earlier the water pump should be
replaced at your convenience and NOT once you are stranded. In addition to serpentine belt. The belt is a real killer if it shreds on you.. Plugs and ALL fluids should follow. Great car to enjoy but you have take care of it. By the way, disregard BMW recommendations. BE VPROACTIVE! It's your baby.

Post water pump

Working on replacing my Water Pump and Thermostat now. Died at 79,000 miles. Trying to get to the hose clamps is a real pain on a 535xi. I watched a couple videos on the 535i and it is easy compared to the xi. Bentley manual says you can get to the clamps at the top, but the turbo houses and a/c hoses are in the way. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have a 530xi and you're right, a couple of the clamps are a bitch. One in particular I think I fiddled with laying on my back under the car for 40 minutes until I was satisfied it was properly positioned on the hose after I started to tighten it down. I've got a pretty good tool set, so I don't remember what I ultimately used. 1/4 drive socket maybe. Small wrench maybe. 1/4 drive thumbwheel maybe.

This happened to me last weekend, on the way to the cottage, in a heat wave of course. Red message to stop the engine, then power loss, then find a dealer message, then scalding danger if I open the hood. I opened it anyways. It was fine.
1.5 hour wait for CAA, 120km tow back to my independants shop in Toronto. $1150 to fix, its a 2010 535xiT, 78,000 miles or 127,000kms on the car. Really glad the dog wasn't with me, it was ~30deg (90ish). Went home grabbed the 7 and went to cottage again! 9 hour trip in total.
Tow truck driver told me an awesome story about a lady with 8 cats loose in her car that wanted them to ride in the cab with her, he said no and left.

Default Overheating while heat on 08 535i

If the car does over heat cuz for some reason i dont notice that the heater is on.... All i have to do is shut the car off an restart it making sure the heater isnt on.... Its really annoying.... Codes show that its the water pump.... But hesitant to replace because of cost and the fact that it only over heats when the heater is on.... " mind blown!" Any suggestions??? And ini changed the the temp sensor already so its not that.
Did anyone figure this out...p0128 code...my Indy says coolant fan relay or coolant temp sensor...however a lot of posts saying thermostat and or water pump...any advice would be helpful.

My 2010 535I xdrive just overheated with the same messages as posted on the Idrive. When finally cool opened the coolant reservoir and started the car no antifreeze movement in the reservoir and nothing coming out of the little hole in the opening under the cap. I believe the water pump is dead. Checked all the fuses, 5 in total and none blown. Does this issue always throw a code? None on my car. Still thinking water pump. Put screwdriver agains pump and hear nothing while running. Help?????
