One has to be proactive and learn the car you are driving. There is a lot of information that these blogs can render. The 535ix has definite weak areas that will leave you stranded or limping home.
Some have extended warranty, turbos, hpfp, but others are a crap shoot. Water pump, serpentine belt. From what I've read these last two will show up between 40K and 75K. So due diligence is a must.

So at 60,000 miles should you just replace the pump and the belt?

Add me to the list. 2010 535i with 55k miles. Water pump went out leaving the wife stranded 80 miles from home. She let it cool down for 30 minutes or so and then drove it to the closest stealership about 5 miles away. $1,250 for a pump and thermostat replacement. BMW should feel ashamed...

Default Pump

Heres another twist to this... Mine is at 90000 miles... My car sais its over heating and gives me all the same warnings as u guys are getting... But my car only over heats if the heater is turned on.... I can jse the ac but not the heater.... If i dont turn on the heater the car runs just fine with no warnings or anything. If the car does over heat cuz for some reason i dont notice that the heater is on.... All i have to do is shut the car off an restart it making sure the heater isnt on.... Its really annoying.... Codes show that its the water pump.... But hesitant to replace because of cost and the fact that it only over heats when the heater is on.... " mind blown!" Any suggestions??? And ini changed the the temp sensor already so its not that.

What code are you getting. Mine wasn't completely out, but I was getting 2E84 and 2E81. I got the yellow drive carefully message one day. Changed the water pump and all gone.
