I have now tried to change the gearbox stat and the waterpump but without any luck but i didnt think this would help other than the gearbox stat maybe! mine car takes about 20min to get 80c and its about 14c this morning i went to Work!

Mine driving cond. is still 72-82c below 95 km/h and im know now for sure that is the DME that comtrol these parameteres because when i pulled the thermostat plug of the engine runs about 98c below 95km/h also!

So that a bit shitty but i cant do anything about it:-(

Best Regards
I'm sorry to hear that. I feel your pain, I had this problem for nearly 2 years. I actually still can't believe that its finally fixed. How did you find out about this?

Hi, can you guide me how to disconnect the stat cable as easy as possible.

I made a test which ment disconnecting the fan switch and the se sensor on the rad outlet the temp rise to 112 on idle so I chicken out checkt for fault code but none must be stat/ DME

Will disconnect my stat....

😩

Hello Guys, Been on holiday for the past 6-7 weeks. I finally got back and first thing I did was clamp the hose Don Dario mentioned in his previous posts and that did it!
The car took less than 3 minutes to hit 90 degrees Celsius, drive all day and it was running perfectly and as it should! Thanks Don for pointing out the 'in conjunction' section about the oil cooler hose, I really should've seen that after how many times I've been over that image! I'm absolutely glad to say that finally the car is running like normal. I'm now going to head back to the mechanic to somehow block the hose for good, not worth buying a whole new hose and possibly radiator :/
Thanks again fellas, good luck to those still having these issues, I feel your pain

Hi, happy to hear it worked out with the hose blocking.

Must ask, does it work on a manual gearbox?

The manual version doesn't have that hose at all. Because mine's an auto it has an extra coolant pipe to the radiator and that's the one I had to block! so now the system is the same as a manual car, I still don't know why or how it's working though :/

Are you still thinking DME as the cause for yours?

Well, perhaps not DME more likely some sensor or a combination of input signals to DME.

Im very confused and I tell yo why.

Last weekend I drove 700 miles on high way in 100-150 km/h. Back home again driving to work etc on state roads in 0-85 km/h, what a suprise I got.

For approx. 150 miles it really worked as heat management should on this car meaning it was warming up in minutes to over 90 degC and then runing on 100-108 degC in any speed. Also cooling down respons when hiting the trott to like 80 degC.

Yesterday back to runing on 80 degC (75-84) in speeds < 95 km/h. Havent got a clue why? What on earth is going on?

😈

That really does sound bizarre! That's what I was asking myself the whole time I had issues! What on earth could be going on? Do you have anyone you can take the car to and have a look into it?

Ive been to the BMW dealer near by but weak response, changed stat twice and offered to do it again. ... been told that car is ok despite showing diagram on temp and speed relations and the inconsistent behavior!!!!!!! Tested and mapped engine coolant temp on several dealers cars and they clearly run as heat management state.

Have had letter written to BMW Germany but got instantly redirected to BMW Sweden and had some mailing with somebodys secretary that clearly just dont now anything and with one main task to get rid of me "you have to contact your local dealer". How hard can it be to redirect me to an BMW heat management Expert.!!!!

Changed the temp water/oil sensor ...no change.

I have had a feeling that when its raining and wet it work fine. Loose contact/ shorting/ bad sensor ? ???

Anyway car is undergoing a complete reconditioning today including a engine clean up.... so that can be interesting.

T 😆

oh good luck today, worst response is when they just try to get rid of you! not good on BMW's behalf. I gave up on dealers because of this, I use local Euro specialists now instead
