My Ride: BMW 528 ix
Default 2009 E60 Idrive fried...

Here's my story,

Last week the idrive on my 09 528 ix decided to stop responding. Multiple resets later I gave up and just let it be. On Friday, I made an appointment at the dealership to have it looked at and possibly reprogrammed.....Wake up on saturday morning and start the car on my way to the dealership, Idrive is back on again... I stop for coffee, restart the and I am back to square one,.
I get to the dealership , it gets pulled in and they come back with this diagnosis:
The radio is shorting out and thats what is causing the intermittent operation of the idrive... At this point I am thinking I will just pay $165 for the diagnosis and move to tan indy and have the problem taken care of...Service Advisor follows up with I need to replace the whole shebang for 1500 otherwise any fix will just be temporary...
Am I being had here or is the BMW dealership being honest?...1500 to replace the CCC etc etc including programming?,..

check your CCC drive cooling fan.

other than that, yes it's totally possible that the drive has failed. $1500 at the dealer level is actually pretty tame compared to some other quotes I've heard. good luck.

Update:
I bit the bullet and had it done.. Only thing is they broke the damper on the glove box. They ordered a new one and getting it replaced tommorow.. Amazing how not having audio in a car makes the car boring...I am back in business.....thank y'all for your input...
