Default 2008 BMW 535i TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION

Hi I have a 2008 BMW 535i and lately I have been getting a TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION MESSAGE. The car will start up fine when cold and I am able to drive it. While driving the car for about 15 minutes which include stopping/going at stop lights the car seen to run fine, However after coming to a permanent stop and put the car into (P) park mode, then later shift to (R) the transmission would automatically shift itself back to( P). the same thing would happen when I put the car into (D) drive mode. if I turn the car off, then restart the car, now I am now able to put the transmission into (R) or (D) mode, at this time the car will reverse or go forward at times but at reduced power. Does anyone experience this issue or know what causes the transmission to malfunction, thanks for your help..

this is the symptom of my BMW transmission.

You will probably be better off getting your Valve Body rebuilt. I see youre in Wisconsin so it wont be too expensive. You will spend about $900 in all after buying everything you need. You might need to check your fluid level. Sounds like you are low

Hi seanjordan20 .. no I haven't got a chance to look at the transmission, it is still cold up here in Wisconsin for me to work on it. but I will as soon as the weather get warmer, since I will be working on it outside. In the meantime I am trying to find the best code reader which will extract code for 2008 BMW 5 Series transmission, abs and airbag, do you know of any?

By the way do you know where I can buy a INPA software to monitor my temperature, any help would be most appreciated. thanks

It's the seal between the valve body and the transmission case. Just did one a week ago. There is actually a TSB from BMW on this problem.

Yes that is the gasket he is talking about. I would change all 5 gaskets since you will have it open. The sealing sleeves and seal adapter since that is the route you want to take. Their are 4 sealing sleeves 3 different sizes.
