Hello,
My DPF has now successfully regenerated, the key was resolving the 4030 fault which would not go away, more info about that here:

https://5series.net/forums/e60-discu...re-cat-143387/

Once this fault was resolved, I had no errors in DDE (even though my DPF was still heavily clogged, my makeshift piece of pipe with a hole in it was enough to fool the backpressure sensor and stop the 480A and 481A errors from returning).

As soon as I got on the motorway, regeneration went active and temperatures soared to over 600 degrees for several minutes. Once done, I removed my piece of pipe, reconnected the original and backpressure readings were now well below the limits.

Some notes:
  • I didn't notice any difference in engine noise, throttle response or smells whilst the regeneration was active.
  • The regeneration status changed to active even though the regeneration request status was not requested, I've only ever seen this say requested by DDE whilst there were faults preventing regeneration.
  • Forcing a regeneration put the regeneration active almost immediately, request status was still "not requested".

I hope this helps somebody somewhere, it's consumed far too many hours of my time and far too many unnecessary purchases (sensors etc...).

I must say I couldn't tell my forced regens were underway except by the exhaust temp change - and maybe the fuel consumption.

Well done.

guys pay attention to engine temperature....if temp lower than 75C (which is the case if your thermostatS are bad, quite common issue on diesel) auto regen wont kick in = clogged dpf

After you fix thermostat etc run with a buddy open disv57 and keep deleting errors and activate regeneration one time.

I used to do this in mine with 3rd gear 3800 rpm and dpf was heavy clogged so it run sparks in end of exhaust in the road.

But i was tired from regenerations etc so I decided to remove it completely!

Whats wrong with my thermostat? also I don't have the facility to bring up errors or indeed clear them! anybody know what DDE stands for? Paneuro

I have now replaced both thermostats as it was running at around 75 degrees, its now running at between 90 and 94 degrees but still no regeneration although I'm told I have get the codes cleared first. I would like to get a code reader of my own, any recommendations? I'm not to clever with computers but I will just have to learn. paneuro.
