Arrow 09 525i transmission replace question....

After put a lot effort trying to repair my transmission, and it went worse.

My car has only 55,00km on the odometer. symptom is transmission faulty errors appears when hard acceleration. maybe in 4 or 5 gear or when shifting 4-5, other than this it's all fine. After done all the work(replaced parts using overhaul kit and solenoid mechatronic repairs) I ended up worse than before. put it in D the car won't move at all If press the acceleration the transmission faulty lights goes up and it moving likely in 3rd gear. Reverse is fine.

So my question is, If I replace the whole transmission with the used one do I have to re program it or will it work right away?

Thanks in advance. Much appreciate.

If you are replacing the valve body with the trans then you need to reprogram but if it is only the transmission then you should be fine with just an adaption reset.

It seems as if you did not repair it right though. You had the right idea but messed up along the way. You should of had your Valve body fixed by a specialist which would of cost around $600 then replaced the gaskets between the VB and trans and your issue would have went away. Right now it seems as if you didnt put it back together correctly which is causing you to have worse issues. Make sure you torqued the bolts correctly and you put the right amount of fluid in. If you took the VB out make sure you mech sleeve is put in correctly and the plug is in all the way. With 55000km on the odometer I would not spend money on a used trans. Your trans is fine you just have to correct what you messed up and then the initial issue. Doing this should cost no more than $1000. You are in Bangkok so there is someone in China I think that will fix your VB for around $400. I would have to check if that is correct. PM E60Japanese and he can give you more info on it.

I think he took way more apart than the valve body by the looks of another thread he posted in. Could be a lot of different things.

Sorry for poor English. but I already replaced clutch discs , all seals , o rings kit , sleeves , 4 little circle thing near valve body , and clutch pot bushing I think that causes the problem(what the mechanic saids so).

and after reset all adaptations and let it re-learn following the zf manual, then took a long test drive around 100km continuing, it's all fine no surging , no lurching , no faulty lights , shift perfectly, actually drive like a mad person. floored the gas pedal all the way.

but when approaching the workshop after test drive current speed approximately 30-40 km/H sh!t!!! that faulty lights lit up again. restarted it, and boom the transmission is not moving at all tried to press gas pedal a little and the faulty lights goes on, car moves slowly like it's in 3rd gear. then restarted it again the faults gone put it in D the car won't move until faulty light lit up and move slowly in 3rd gear again.

but Reverse is not affected, works fine.

any clue ??

Thanks

and back at workshop read the faults it throws

4f81 - Ratio monitoring, clutch A

4f91 - ratio monitoring clutch A-D

..........

before began all the works. The faults was Slipping Clutch C and E. and It is gone for good. I think now it solved my earlier problem but not solved what I experiencing now.

Wow. You definitely did more than you should have. At this point I have no clue what the issue is. I would lean toward the work you did was not done correctly. The initial issue would have been fixed with the solution I gave but now that the transmission was opened it should be taken to an expert and make sure that discs are correct.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciated it.

Now I sent my car to dealer to replace brand new transmission. costs about 260,000 THB ,(7k USD)

My stupid decision was sent my car to indy garage, keep in mind "CHEAP PEOPPLE ALWAYS PAYS TWICE"

Luckily I don't have to pay for the indy garage so my mechanic have to suck it up too.

Sent it in today and will get it back in 2 days. will report after it fixed.
