Any known problems I should be aware of? The cars i'm looking at is over 100k miles.
You guys might be bias but would you recommend it or should I get a more reliable car? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

If your going for high mileage, I would get a manual transmission. Also, the car will be due for a coolant system overhaul.

My Ride: 2008 535i Monaco blue/cream beige, light poplar trim, sport, nav, premium, Logic 7, 6 speed manual
My other rides:
Departed: 2006 530xi Silver gray/black, anthracite maple trim, cold, sport, nav, premium, Logic 7, 6 speed steptronic, bluetooth, adaptive xenons
Departed...2002 525i White/beige, 5 sp manual
I think the main issue is that these cars do need some maintenance somewhere around the 100K mark...unless you're just lucky. My husband has a 2000 model year that he had to put about $3K in...and according to the mechanic, that's not necessarily unusual. I had an 02 that I sold at 96K or so...and had done very little to it..and it was showing no signs of needing anything. (It was a manual...replacing the tranny might be your biggest concern.) That said, the e39 is a great handling car and when you consider what you save in purchase price, it's probably worth whatever you have to put into it to keep it going. I would still look up the maintenance history and see what's been done, and what problems it may have had...but you've probably already thought of that.

My advice: step up and go E39 540i Sport. The 2003 E39 540i Sport, with the M Tech kit and M Parallel whees, is one of the most beautiful BMW sedans ever made IMHO. I had that car and it was my all time favorite. The car had huge low end torque and zero throttle delay (I hate the current throttle by wire). If you are looking at the E39, get that one. You'll be glad you did.
