2002 525i battery drain
#1
Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum. I'm looking for some help in solving my battery problem. Last Sept. 25th the car wouldn't start...just the clicking sound letting you know that battery was dead. Called the local AAA towing service. He came out and tested the battery, said it was dead, but could install right then and there a AAA battery replacement. $153 dollars later, he took off and everything was fine. Or so I thought. One month to the day, Oct. 25th the car wouldn't start. Same thing, just clicked when tried to start. Called AAA, and believe it or not, the same guy shows up. He recognized me too. He did a test, said the battery was dead. I said how could it be, you just replaced the battery 30 days ago today! He replaced the battery, then did a drain test, said that the battery was having a drain on it. I called my friend at the dealer where I bought the car 8 years ago, he said you need to do the drain test at least 15 minutes after the battery was installed. This lets the car go into sleep mode.
I took the car to the AAA towing center, then did a new drain test, and found that the following: voltage: 12.86v; starter test: voltage was 11.94v and amps 152.4a; charging system: 13.94v no load w/21.8a, 13.88v loaded w/13.3a; drain test showed 2.42amps.
What does this all mean, and what should I do to solve the problem. The car has been starting up fine since the replacement on Oct. 25th.
thank you,
Jeffmgr
