Happy new year to you all.

I have just received my E61 and now I am planning what mods I would like for the future.

I am curious to hear about the possibility to install a multi functional steering wheel, since I have a standard one now.

Anybody know if it is possible and if yes how?

Car: E61, 523i, 10/12/2007 LCI 39.000 km on the clock

Thanks

Yes it's possible, there are just few things you need to take into consideration...

- you have to get a steering wheel which is manufactured after 9/2005 (fitment issue)
- if you want some new features that you don't have yet, the car needs to be reprogrammed

There are bunch of DIYs on this section about the subject. Here's mine:

Thanks for the input Antti

But the problem is, I have no buttons at all on the steering wheel today, and would love to retrofit a steering wheel with radio/cd control etc.

Do you know of a DIY for fitting this in the car.

Thanks again

Wow... I thought all E60/E61s have a multifunction steering wheels .

I think the install itself is pretty straight forward, and I think there are connection plugs and wiring already in your steering wheel column.
I also think that the features of the new steering wheel have to be programmed into the car. This has to be done at the dealer or with a skilled individual shop or with a skilled enthusiast with the right software and equipment.
