I went and picked up the Advanced Auto battery yesterday and it, too is an exact replacement for the BMW battery. The only difference between the two batteries that I could see is the color. The Advanced Auto battery even had a "Made in Germany" sticker on it. It cost me $140 with the "BATX" discount code.

The battery has an 84-month warranty with the first 36-months at 100% replacement and the balance pro-rated.

What about the one that Autozone does show as fitting my '08 535i? It looks like the 1 yr less warranty version of the 95R-DLG and is the same in every spec that I can tell other than the width being about 1 5/8" less

The Duralast 49-DL

Price $104.99
Core $12.00

I switched from the 94R to an H8. I put the 94R in another car that needed battery and picked up a new H8 for my 5er. It is exact as the OEM besides the case color down to the vent and terminals. It is made in CZ Republic. $100 EverMaxx 3-yr replacement.

With the H8, did you have to register the battery?

This has been discussed many times. It's not something that is ABSOLUTELY necessary. But if you're dropping $500 on a battery you damn well want it to last. I spend but $100 on a battery. I do not have an IBS I took it out, but yes, because I have the tools I just register every battery for the hell of it. I bought one back in 2008 for the E39 and it's still holding strong even without using a trickle charger.

I ended up buying the Duralast 95R and it fit perfectly and no errors on the Idrive. Nothing was reset or out of place. The battery was $170 including a 8 year warranty. I DID NOT REGISTER ANYTHING and so far, no problems (knock on wood lol).

I did a little research on AGM batteries and it is said they last up to 3 times longer then the regular acid batteries. Then how come my 2009 original battery is taking a crap after 3 years (in June). Only about 27K miles. Used trickle charger also. Intelligent charging system my "eye".

Yea you dont need to register. H8 and this 95R I guess are the same thing. H8 is direct fit...it's pretty much the exact battery but if you have 8 yr warranty I guess nothing to worry about. 8 yrs is the first I've ever heard of a manufacturer stretching that length. But then again who keeps their car for 8 yrs and without receipt I'm sure they don't honor it.

GREAT THREAD! So, what happens when when you don't 'register' the new battery? Do you get an error code?

Also, are dealer willing to 'register' this battery if I go to Autozone and plop it in myself?

We have an '07 525xi with an original battery, so I'm thinking "it's time".

Thanks
