Well it looks like I'm going to be tackling this when I get the point of my AC blower motor annoying the crap out of me. Which right now only happens when its below 50%. So I'm "ok" atm. I love it when I take right turns now as the noise goes away. When I take a left though it screeches at me. This is something I'm not looking forward to lol.

Take your time and it's pretty straightforward, and not a dirty job. It looks worse than it is.

Does sound like yours is on its way out.

JasonH, I cannot thank you enough for the center console removal instructions. Please know that the time and energy you put into the pictures and documentation are tremendously appreciated.
I needed to do the removal to perform a repair to the shifter assembly and yours were the only instructions I could find. Thank you.

Default Hedgehog only replacement.

The guide is fantastic! My fan has stopped working, but I don't believe the fan is faulty. I think in my case I need to change the controller (hedgehog)!

If only changing the hedgehog, does the strip out need to be so extensive, or can it be accessed via the foot wells, or maybe just the AC controls?

Thoughts would be much appreciated!

The "hedgehog" doesn't fail very often on the E60/E61 it's usually the motor (the opposite of the E39's).

Realistically to replace the hedgehog you need to take everything apart - unfortunately almost every step is essential as well.

Thanks for the instructions. The whole job took me 5 hours. I didn't have to take the passengers side trim panel or glove box away. I managed to take the air duct out and back from the center hole. Actually i got the whole blower motor out vihtout taking the air ducts away, but didn't got the new one back before taking the air ducts away (because I was afraid to broke the new motor in installing). Btw model 2006 520d.

Just did mine. I kind of followed the instruction and eventually, I had to do almost the same steps in the instruction - center console needed to be removed; driver side footwell panel dropped, glove box dropped, etc.

It took me about 14 hours (3 separate days) to complete the replacement job. What an experience....
