Engine: M54
Did mine at 50k miles but did not replace the oil pan. Will do the oil pan replacement @ 100k miles. Thanks for the tip to expose all the oil pan screws.

My Ride: 2005 BMW 545i, Titanium Silver. Bridgestone 760s on Weds Bavaria II 18" wheels, standard sport pack size. Sport, AT. Latest job - NGK Iridium IX plugs installed.
This is great, I've been pondering this job myself. 5.5 liters of transmission fluid, that is a lot.

Couple of questions. 1, what is the reason for replacing the pan? 2. is there a gasket or seal for the pan that must also be replaced?

1. If you want to replace the filter, you will have to replace the pan. They are both 1 piece now. Since all the gunk gets caught up in the filter, I felt it made sense to change it.
2. I bought the pan kit which included everything. If you are ok with reusing your old pan, you can purchase all the gaskets and seals seperately.
Another suggestion for people that are concerned about warranty would be for them to just drain and fill ATF for now, change the pan at 100k.
