05 525i engine over heating/ radiator fan
My car started overheating recently, it appears that my radiator fan is not working. I'm having my mechanic check to see if it's the fan or the relay. My question is if it is the fan, I'd like to just change the motor, has anyone done this- where did you get the part. The fan blade and shroud are in good condition.

as far as i know, it's serviced as a complete unit (blade, shroud, motor, etc). If you do end up having it replaced, ask to source it from someone other than the dealer (WorldPac, etc). The OE unit is pricey.

If the fan or relay checks out o.k. then you could have a faulty coolant temp sensor on the upper radiator hose, passenger side. This sensor is more or less $30 so it'd be worth a shot in replacing considering the age of your 5er. Good luck

Thanks e6t.lab.rat I will change the sensor. I found the exact part on ebay from an 06 3 series. Volvo also uses the same motor in some of their cars. Probably with different wattage. All that to say I spent $140 vs $750.
