I'm not sure what you mean by "coated", but my 545i has a flat black leather interior. Yes, it is stained Black, but I wouldn't consider that a coating. I didn't note that the owner said it had a gloass coating on the leather.

Leatherique'd my interior with two treatments, and it is flat black as OEM; only much softer. You do have to follow the instructions, but there isn't a better product on the market for bringing the leather back to its original pliability. However, you'll need at least 48 - 72 hours for it to be fully effective.

There are are quicker appplication products but nothing works better. Lexol made zero difference when I had tried it as have a few others including Mercedes leather interior treatments.

I've been using Lexol cleaner and conditioner, but recently tried SmartLeather -- it's good stuff and leaves a nice smell!

I knew I should have just bought the Lexol, but the salesman at the shop highly recommended the Meguiers Gold Class 'Rich Leather' Cleaner/Conditioner. Not sure if it it water-based, bottle says it contains 'no lanolin'?

There is something to be said for those companies that have been around for ages with hardly any advertising and plane-Jane packaging. Because their stuff simply works, wish i would have read this the other day....should have went with my gut.
