hand wash.
Can do without the dreaded swirlmarks caused by carwash brushes.

Use carwashes in Germany when over there, that use Microfibre towels instead of brushes.

I mix it up--provided the car wash is DIY touchless. My car stays very clean so I don't have to wash it often. About half the time my dealer does a hand wash for me. Then, I go to a mall parking lot close by and use quick detailer to clean any missed places. My dealer does a pretty decent job. Every time my car gets a tad dirty I try to think of something that needs checking/fixed by my dealer. I wax myself.

Not likely, but polishing compound should. Then wax.

I always wash my cars by hand. I don't trust automatic car washes, plus they don't do a very good job of cleaning the car.

You will need to polish and wax at least. Also, there are some decent scratch/swirl removers on the market. If you use rubbing compound, then it should have only a tiny amount of abrasive material. I would leave the use of rubbing compound to the pros otherwise. You also might consider using a random orbital if you want to get swirls out. If you don't know what you are doing, then stick with dope-proof products.

Hand wash 100% even in winter time, outside temperature down to 30 F.

I've used the Blitz product for slight surface scratches and swirl marks on my black XI - Works well and adds depth to the wax
