I ordered the M-aero kit and im wondering how they will adapt the front end to allow for the camera to peek thru. I guess they will just take a coping saw and hack out a chunk of the front grill.
I believe the infrared sensor is housed in the rear view mirror assembly.

I called BMW, and Night Vision was not included on my car. The guy didn't know whether or not it can be retrofitted, etc. It sounded like it was a ways away from being available.
So what is BMW gonna do about it? You ordered it, and now it's gonna come to you without the nightvision... are you still going to sign for it? Or wait it out and re-order?

I guess I'll take the car without the feature. It is supposed to arrive at dealer this week. I'll post any info I learn about retrofit.

They are direct shipping my car to my Chicago dealer and I dont have to go to Europe for the pick up. They are honoring my ED invoice pricing.
Well that's no fun...you won't be able to enjoy driving your car in Europe :'(

They should also give you a Get-Out-of-Jail-Free-Card, so you can speed all you want in the US to simulate what the Autobahn would've been like, and not get arrested.

Hello,
I was a bit surprised when i read this thread.. It seems you guys cannot get night vision on your cars? My new car (e60 535d) was delivered to me (in sweden) april 5 with night vision. It was built in march, week 11.

Regards

I cannot really tell yet, because i?ve only had the car for two weeks and i?ve been on holiday for 10 days out of those..... So my car has only run for 200 km to this day, mostly in daylight. BUT, from what i have seen so far (i actually went out yesterday evening and found some really dark roads and sent the wife running ahead of the car while i was watching on the screen....quite kinky when you think about it.. ) it really worked well! She went away from the car perhaps 200m and it was completely impossible to see her until i turned on the camera and VOILA? there she was!!! She lit up the screen like a flashlight! It was really quite amazing!

So, my guess is that it will be a nice feature to have, especially while driving on dark winter roads, with all those deers and mooses running around the Swedish forests...

Take care
Lunne

Does the camera seem to be protected against rock chips? This is one concern I have but did not get any response from BMW when I sent an e-mail to customer service. I don't want to be buying a new camera every time it gets hit.

Does it look like a system that could be retrofitted?

Please send pictures (of your wife running)

Hi!
No, I guess rock chips could hurt the lens if you are unlucky... It is fitted in the spoiler and it is the same size and shape as the fog lights which also are mounted in the spoiler. I never had any broken fog lights so i guess the chances of breaking the camera are quite small but you never know... If you want i can take some pictures of the installation so you can see how she ... (sorry i mean it of course.. ) is mounted?
Regarding retrofitting i honestly cannot say anything. My technical skills are - to say the least - small... You will have to ask someone else about that i?m afraid.
