so he really wanted to buy an 08 acura tl type s they approved him for a 21000 car at the dealership he went to but they were trying to sell him a regular 07 with about 56000 thousand miles for about 22000. He thought that wasn't a good deal so then they tried to sell him a 08 c300 benz w/28000 miles regular edition no nav no sport nothing. he negotiated the price of the car to about 21000. the payments would be 400 a month with 5000 down. he called me to ask me what i thought about the car and deal. So I'm fowarding the question to you guys to see what you think.

There are so many details that factor into buying a used car - unfortunately the limited information about these choices doesn't give me a clue about the true value of the cars. And, it's possible that your little brother needs a primer about looking for and negotiating / closing a deal on a car. I strongly recommend he study the guides offered in Edmunds.com or similar car related websites. Better to be prepared before than sorry later ... especially for a first car purchase!

I don't know much about the benz either I watched a couple review videos on it, the car looks pretty decent seems like its comparable to a 3 series but personally i think 21000 could buy a better car then that c300 plus his monthly payments seem a bit high. I will forward to him your advice on familiarizing himself in the art of negotiation from edmunds

My Ride: Bmw E60 530i 2004 Jet Black sport package on Linea Corse 19" Lc818 Saphire Black
for 21 000 $ I think he could find a good 2005-2006 5 series, with a bit more mileage on it, but a much more better car , if he really wanna stick with the benz, I'm sure he could find a c-class with more options in it !
tell him to take his time and make sure to know what is buying ! He should do a test drive of the benz to feel the car !
Do not let the dealer choose your car !

'08 Acura TL Type S should be much less than $21k. I had an '06 TL and it was a fantastic sedan, very low maintenance and fun to drive. My good friend had an '08 TL Type S and he loved it as well. Repairs are also resonably low cost, good fuel mileage, and it is a very good all around body style. The current TL front end does not look good at all.
I would avoid MB for a first car, he will no doubt crunch it somewhere within the first year on a careless mistake and then the repair costs will blow him away. Everybody crunches their first car a few times as they build up driving experience.
Good luck.
