78k for 414 HP? Freaking rip off in my opinion, soon you'll be able to get a 545i/550i and go up a Dinan stage or two for the same price.

Question

Uh-oh i read an article in the Sept. 2005 Car & Driver, the New S-Class will have a standard 5.5 V8 with 380 some odd horsepower! :'(

Will the next E-Class have this or the C55's 5.4 V8 with 362hp?

Yup... probably one or the other... since the E320 got bumped to the E350.. and ALL E60 engines are getting bumped in 2006 so its time for the E500 to get bumped to the E550! 550? Uh o... where have I heard that before?

The horsepower war happen back in 70s and got stopped by high oil price. Is it going to happen again? It looks like it. Anything over 4.5L is too much. We might squeeze in a little for 4.8L

Negative. Maybe when i'm 60ish.

Starting with 05 models MB dropped the free scheduled maintenance making it even more expensive to own/maintain.

Mercedes' drivers tend to be nose heavy. I know a guy who thinks his 03 CLK320 is better than ANY BMW.

BMW drivers are tech savvy, better looking and have superior DNA.

Besides it's nice to know what you're potentially up against.

I don't think so, Bill Gates drives a s600 when he does drives. Donald Trump has a Maybach, the ultra rich drives Mercedes products while us middle class drives bimmers (nothing wrong with bimmer) put "superior DNA" not sure on that one.

I would say upper middle class.

If you don't have superior DNA (hint-sarcasm) why did you "settle" on a BMW?

Hey if i could afford a Ferrari F430 spider i would've gotten that instead.

[I owned to MBs a "99" E Class and a 2000 "C" Class. They were both unreliable and the dealer could or would not repair. Transmission problems on both cars. I have sold them both and pick up a new 530xi and a 330i in Munich on 9/15. Never another Benz!

Ok, ok, ok we've all been raving about the 535d, 545i and New M5.

Has anyone been keeping tabs on our arch rivals at Mercedes Benz?

It would be nice for BMW to make an M3 saloon with a V8 to take on the C55!

Will the E500 get an updated V8 soon to pace the 550i?

Are they gonna tweak the E55 to take on the New M5?

I am above 60 and am still to young to drive a Benz. Their service suck, but the cars handle poorly!

Thumbs down

Had two MBs and that was two too many. Both were real POS. A "99" E20 and a "00" C280. My previous 7 Cadillacs were better built and better performing. The two things you can be sure about in a Benz is the quality isn't very good, but the service is pathetic!

IMO, Mercedes look better than BMWs, but I like to drive my car hard and i require good handling which Mercedes does not have. MB is better than most cars, but BMW is much better. I like to weave through traffic to get to that open stretch and open it up, or to get in front of one more car inthe city so that i can make that long light that is coming up ahead. BMW is perfect for that, MB just looks nice, can be fast, but doesn't handle well. MB will never be any competition to BMW for people that like to drive and not just ride in their car! You know, even though I like the looks of the latest E-Class i never even went to test drive one as I prefer the 5 series driving ability...Hmm...maybe I should give an E-Class a quick spin.
