BMW Bluetooth notvisable to my phones?

Not had my E60 long so have never known any different but just can't seem to get the Bluetooth to work. Go through the settings menu to pair a new phone but when prompted to select the BMW Bluetooth on my phone nothing appears?! Tried a couple of different phones with the same result. Anyone got any suggestions before I volunteer myself for a robbing by the BMW dealer?!
