Anyone have any idea on the Bluetooth Phone option? Does BMW supply it? If not where would you get one?

There are a couple of options.

1. You can get the bluetooth ready set-up
2. You can get the bluetooth set-up with a BMW bluetooth phone.

The bluetooth ready option basically allows your currenty bluetooth enabled phone to communicate with the vehicle, such as the Ericsson T39. Depending on your phone, there is a module that is included which attaches inside of the armrest.

Skipper2, thanks for the info. There has been very little information released in the US reguarding the bluetooth feature in the new 5. The bluetooth ready option seems to be my best option as I already have a bluetooth Ericssion T68i. Thanks!

There are currently two phone options available on the new 5 in Europe.

1. 638 GSM Professional which is a cordless BMW phone with bluetooth interface that can be used only in the car and close to the car.

2. 644 Complete preparation for Bluetooth phone. When ordering this you have to buy a unique separate snap-in holderat the dealer for the phone you intend to use. Currently only snap-in holders for the Nokia 6310 /6310i, Siemens S55 and Ericsson T39 are available. The cellphone itself also has to bought separately.

There is also option code 640 Preparation for GSM but this is basically just only a pre-wire for the 638 GSM Professional.

Where did you find info on 638? We have received no info on such a system.

[it would be interesting to do some research on the subject, because if 638 is a handset communicating with a built-in GSM phone, then you should be able to use all standardized Bluetooth handsets & hand-frees within the car (and not just the BMW handset)]

I read about it in the pricelist I got from the dealer.

The 638 BMW GSM Professional is the only bulit in phone available but it?s a cordless one. I?m sorry if that was unclear.

This picture shows the 638 BMW GSM Professional in the new E60.

This picture shows the Snap-in holder and Siemens S55 the new E60.

Bluetooth is a universal standard which is one of the main reasons for using it but unfourtunally currently only the 3 mentioned handsets 6310/6310i, S55 and T39 work in with the bluetooth system in the new E60.
But BMW is probably preparing for different handsets since the 6310/6310i and certainly the T39 is rather outdated handsets .
