Okay, so thanks to the wonderful mentoring of out very own Sam I set out to get a new set of rear tires because one of my rear 295/25/22 tires had a slight bubble. My fronts still have about 60% of the tread left and I would hate to waste them. They are Lexanis. I picked up two Pirelli Pzero Neros for the rear. Can I have them mounted and keep the fronts on? I would of course eventually replace them with the same model Pirelli. So is it just taboo to do this? Or is there a real legitimate concern? I've heard talk of mixing tread and I have also hear it doesn't matter as long as the same brand and model are on the same Axel.

Thoughts everyone??

Since your tires will be matched per axle and they are not dedicated snows, you'll be fine.

You aven't yet provided a lot of information about your car or your driving style. That would help us provide advice that may be more relevant. As for matching tires front to rear / side to side ... if you're a conservative driver and as long as the tires are proper size etc front to rear mix is ok - but IMHO, just OK. Pushing a car (driving it aggressively) with tires of different capability on each corner can upset the balance of the car. Fortunately, and in most cases, the stability control systems should even things out.

For street driving I personally would recommend same-branded and design tires on each of the 4 corners. As for Lexanis tires ... I've never heard of them! PZeros are good ... maybe you should consider replacing the other pair and try to sell or trade the no-brand rubber to someone driving something less than a BMW.

Lastly, update your profile ...

And good luck with your tire dilemma.

No worries. People do it all the time. Stay off the racetrack, or at least do a recon lap.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!! My car is an '04 745i. Non-sport package. I have a 3 mile drive to work and really don't drive the car for anything besides commuting. I save the spirited driving for the track and a much more suitable car. That being said I have H&T springs on the way and have the sport bump stops already. I was planning on installing them and the two front tires in a month or so when I have a bit more free time.

It sounds like the general consensus is that while it isn't preferable, it is okay enough to not be a sizeable concern. I found the front tires at 265/30/22 for $239 each. Anyone know of a place with a better price for Pzero Neros? I picked up the two rears, brand new for $131 each. Talk about a great deal. Almost bought 4 just to have them at that price.

$131? That's a steal! Have you tried Tire Rack for the fronts?

I know right? I had to double and triple check because I thought I was making a mistake. I wasn't so fortunate on the fronts tho. But I will admit that the price I got for the fronts wasn't that bad at all. Just comparatively lol, I couldn't help but want a better price. And the store is 15 minutes from my house. They gave me a pretty solid warranty with the tires too. If they ever bubble or need to be replaced for anything besides wear they replace them. Including cost to mount and balance them. Up to $399 each. Not bad huh?

Thats a killer deal on those tires.

Cosmetically, it may look a little strange if your running different tire brands front and rear, but it shouldnt make any performance difference with the way most of use 7series peeps drive.

Hey, its a bad economy, so I am pretty sure some people will understand why your tires dont match.

Not bad at all, especially when you average it over the four tires. Congrats on a nice find.

shouldnt be a problem as long as you have a matched pair on each axle.
