Spy Photos: Next 7 Series Getting Sexier

Spy-Shots of Cars

More spy photos have appeared of BMW’s upcoming 7 Series redesign, and at last we can rest our eyes on what are seemingly the real headlights. The rest of the exterior obviously looks very different than the current model, and it’s easy to see even in all of this camo. Much like the exterior, the platform underneath is anticipated to see significant modifications from the previous model years.

With the many revolutions in BMW’s building processes, integrating mixed materials and eco-efficiencies, it shouldn’t come as much of a shock that these will carry into the new 7 Series. The 2016 model, set to debut in late 2015 (or early 2016), should see lightweight carbon fiber panels in the roof, hood and trunk lid. These weight reductions all lead to further performance increases in handling, braking and acceleration.

Powertrain options are rumored to be quite diverse, with six-, eight-, and twelve-cylinder options across the model lineup — all should include direct-injection and turbocharger technologies. Some rumor mills have excluded the V12 from the lineup, but this seems unlikely with some of the new fuel-saving technologies on the horizon.

Gas-sippers and performance enthusiasts alike have something to look forward to as well, with a plug-in hybrid and a twin-turbo V8 joining the lineup. It seems that, wisely, the M Division has no interest in using a full-sized sedan as a dedicated M car.
