Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of renting an electric 1 Series. And I think there are plenty of BMW fans who’d jump at the chance to get behind the wheel of one of these babies. But is San Fran the right place for it? I’m not sure. Every time I’ve been there, cars have proven to be far much more of a hassle than a convenience. Though given that the green machines can be rented for as little as half and hour, and can be used for one-way trips, it seems like the DriveNow program might make sense for car-less urbanites who need to make a Costco run.
