This LS-Swapped E39 Wagon Is Possibly the Meanest BMW Ever

Starting with my personal favorite BMW body, an E39 Touring, this build took on a whole new life with a GM-sourced 7-liter all-aluminum LS V8. It now delivers nearly 500 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. That’s a pretty mouth-watering proposition when paired to a Tremec T56 transmission. Not only does it have the go-fast goodies, but now it is a perfectly practical hot rod. You can haul your whole family and a bunch of gear for a weekend trip, you can take it on a lumber run, or you can drive it every day without having to worry whether your coolant system is going to unexpectedly explode on your way to work. I honestly can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t want a five-hundred horsepower longroof to drive around. The reasons to want this are nearly innumerable.

This exact car was recently available for bid on Bring-A-Trailer. With three days left the bidding, it seemed to be stalled at about $25,000. But in the last few days, the price jumped to $36k before being swooped up.

Just to rub salt in that wound, we’ve included the video of the car on the dynamometer below. Listen to that hearty American bellow surrounded by a gorgeous German shell!
