Because the i8 didn’t already look cool enough, BMW decided the car needed a fresh restyling in order to test out its newest drivetrain: Hydrogen. The new matte black i8 sports blue highlights, crazy front fins, and fender flares.

BMW has been working on hydrogen powered vehicles jointly with Toyota since their initial partnership was developed in 2012. Now, the i8 Hydrogen concept furthers that commitment while hoping to bring about real change in terms of what powers vehicles in the future.

While all BMW revealed of the i8 hydrogen concept was, well, the concept itself, BMW did release some of the stats on the 5 Series GT hydrogen concept, which is similar to the i8. According to the company, the 5 Series GT’s new hydrogen powerplant develops 245 horsepower and can go up to 300 miles between fill-ups. BMW plans on bringing both cars to market before 2020.

What do you guys all think of the styling of the i8? Did someone watch too much of the new Mad Max film before sketching this out?
